Fall Scavenger Hunt Printable Activity For Kids
I created this fun printable scavenger hunt checklist for young kids that you can do outdoors. It has 14 key phrases that are centered around the Fall season and Thanksgiving. This was a fun activity to do with our child that we were able to do on a walk in our neighborhood.
The items on our list are:
- Yellow / Orange Leaves
- Acorn
- Pine Cone
- Twigs / Sticks
- Squirrel
- Corn Stalk
- Scarecrow
- Fall Decorations
- Feather
- Bird
- Cranberries
- Pumpkin
- Apple
- Turkey
What was helpful when making this list was to take an inventory of the items that we thought we might find out in our neighborhood. To our delight and surprise, our son was able to find all 14 of the items that were on the list.
Why Scavenger Hunts Are Good For Young Children
Scavenger hunts are not just fun, but as it turns out they are good for children’s educational advancement. According to the Institute For Educational Advancement, scavenger hunts help kids:
- Build Problem-Solving Skills – Scavenger hunts help your kids build problem-solving skills by utilizing the list they have and trying to search out and find the items on the list.
- Easy to Customize – a scavenger hunt can also help by allowing customization of the list to contain items that are best suited to your child’s skills or interests.
- Exercise both body and mind – A scavenger hunt is just plain fun and a great way to get outside in nature and to run around and get plenty of exercise.
- Teach Teamwork – Going on a hunt also helps your child build teamwork skills because they often will need to work with their mom and dad or with other siblings in order to accomplish their goal.
Our son had a lot of fun on this scavenger hunt and I’ll be creating new scavenger hunt printables for us to try in the future. Please comment and subscribe to our free printable newsletter on this page to get new printables sent to your e-mail weekly. Have a great day!
