How To Make A DIY Christmas Tree Ornament Popsicle Stick Picture Frame Craft

Christmas time in our home is fun, especially when you have little ones running around. There is just something so fun and magical about this time of year. For this project, we’re making a fun DIY Christmas Tree Ornament.

During the Christmas season, we like to make crafts with our son, and this time we decided to create a super fun and very easy do-it-yourself picture frame Christmas tree ornament. Seriously, this Christmas tree ornament is really easy to make and doesn’t require a lot of supplies.

Christmas Tree Ornament Picture Frame Materials List

  • Glue: you can use a hot glue gun, Super Glue, white school glue (Elmer’s), or all-purpose wood glue. For this project, we ended up using super glue to glue all of the popsicle sticks together and then a hot glue gun to glue the ribbon when the project was all finished. It is up to you which glue you want to use for this project.
  • Popsicle Sticks: We ended up using the larger, wider popsicle sticks to make our tree shape. It really comes down to your own preference here. If you want a wider tree, then use the bigger popsicle sticks.
  • Paint: We used acrylic green and brown paint to color our tree.
  • Decorations for your Christmas Tree: This can be totally customized to your tastes. We used a combination of different colored and sized buttons and pipe jewels.
  • Ribbon or string for hanging the Christmas tree ornament on your Christmas tree. We used a ribbon for this project.
  • Scissors to cut ribbons and popsicle sticks.
  • You will need a printed-out picture to place on the Christmas ornament.

Assembling the Christmas tree picture frame

  1. The first thing you need to do is glue your main popsicle sticks, (3 sticks), together in a triangle shape.
  2. Then you will cut a smaller section of the popsicle stick and glue it to the triangle to make the Christmas tree shape.
  3. You will then use green paint to color your Christmas tree triangle.
  4. Paint the smaller Christmas tree section brown for the stump.
  5. You will then take your decorations and glue them to the face of the green triangle to your liking.
  6. You will then cut a section of string or ribbon and glue that to the back of the ornament in a loop shape for hanging on your tree.
  7. Please print out a picture and cut it to fit the triangle shape of the ornament.
  8. Glue the picture to the back of your Christmas tree ornament.
  9. Hang and enjoy your new Christmas tree ornament.
