Fun Homeschool Suncatcher Leaf Window Activity

We here at Mom Money Kids love the changing seasons! The temperature starts to drop, and the leaves change color and start to fall off. You can make some hot cocoa, bundle up in a warm blanket, and relax with your little homeschooler.  Today’s activity is perfect for the fall weather as the leaves in some areas of the country fall off and you can use them for fun activities.

What you will need for this Suncatcher Leaf Window Activity

  • Roll of contact paper
  • Real leaves from your yard or in this case fake leaves we picked up from the dollar store
  • Scissors (with supervision) or toddler/child-safe scissors

So for this leaf activity, you will either need to choose if you’re going to use store-bought fall leaves or to collect leaves from your yard. Collecting leaves from your yard could also be a fun activity for you and your toddler also, but we decided to use a pack of decorative fall leaves we picked up from the dollar store to make ours.

Once you have your leaves, you will need to measure out the length and width of the window that you’re wanting to cover. We chose one of our windows that had two panes. We measured each pane and then measured out the dimensions onto our contact paper, and then cut the correct length for the contact paper.

You will then need to remove the sticky contact paper covering from the sheet. Once you have removed the cover from the contact paper, then you will start to place the leaves in different patterns of your choosing onto the contact paper.

Once the leaves are finished being placed on the contact paper, then you will want to place the contact paper and leaves onto the window of your choosing.

This project ended up working perfectly for our son as he had fun cutting the contact paper and placing the leaves onto the contact paper and seeing the finished result. We like it as it adds a glossy glare to this window that catches the sun in the afternoon and totally lights up our space.

Give this project a try and let us know down in the comments what you think.
