Mouse’s Christmas Gift by Mindy Baker Our Favorite Christmas Storybook for 2020
Mouse’s Christmas Gift, written by Mindy Baker and illustrated by Dow Phumiruk is quickly becoming this year’s favorite Christmas storybook.
With the end of the New Years Eve of 2019 and the morning of New Years Day of 2020 brought great sadness to our family with an unexpected loss of my dear cousin. Come to later find, the 2020 year has been quite a year for many of us around the world.
Growing up, I enJOYed the time spent with cousins and family members along with the community through family, church and ballroom dance competitions.
With some of us apart from family this year, it feels similar to the townspeople in the story. The Mouse reminds me of my sweet late auntie who always brought us together for large family gatherings and feasts. Though those memories were special to me, I know this Christmas season, Mouse’s Christmas Gift will be very special in your home to share the festivities of Jesus.
The festivities occurred all because of a thoughtful, selfless Mouse. Mouse takes notice of the Parson, sick with fever and gathers the villagers into the church by lighting a candle and placing it on the windowsill for Alexander and others to see. Each of the townspeople contribute their talents leading up to Christmas Eve.
With each villager selflessly contributing to Mouse’s loving endeavor, the townspeople JOYfully gather for Christmas Eve Service even singing, O Holy Night. What a JOY this story brings and how Mouse helped give hope to others.
The simple yet thoughtful gestures become bigger than we imagine! How can we gather in our way to savor the memories we have with our loved ones? Mouse, being so small and strong that he is, sets up the nativity scene; reminds me on how we can pull our weight and efforts to help those in need. God continues to give us strength. Wherever we are in our lives, at this moment or in the future, there is always hope and a community we create to enJOY the moments that bring us together near and far. How can we bring hope to those around us this season?
Our son, Liam has really enjoyed reading Mouse’s Christmas Gift. I think we have already read through the story a dozen times with him and we will be reading it some more this Christmas season I’m sure.
May this Christmas and holiday season bring great JOY to you and your loved ones online or in-person. Our hope is in the Lord and our Savior is born for all. Merry Christmas.
