Rainbow Sorting Sensory Activity

Who here enjoys playing with balloons or has a collection at home and simply want to put them to use? Our little one simply loves balloons and blowing them up and hitting them up into the air, especially popping them!

You can come up with almost an endless amount of ideas on how to use balloons for craft activities.

How To Make The Rainbow Balloon Sorting Jars

  1. Cut about a half to one inch off of the opening of the balloon and slip over the jar of your choice.

Honestly, creating your very own balloon sorting jars couldn’t be easier.

Some Things To Consider When Making Your Rainbow Balloon Sorting Jars

The length of the opening to trim off will vary depending on the size and shape of the jar.

Some balloons are more pliable than others while some of them are very stiff or very soft when stretching one over a container.

We used balloons found at our local Walmart and they had medium to strong strength in them to fit over. Some balloons can also be very thin and will not last long when stretched over a jar or container.

Ideas For How To Use These Rainbow Sorting Jars

We found that having the jars color-coordinated to match the elbow macaroni gave numerous opportunities for our little one to

  • Practice hand-eye coordination
  • Fine motor skills
  • Counting
  • Sorting
  • And even singing while playing with the jars.
  • He also enjoyed pouring macaroni out of one jar and pour macaroni into the next jar.
  • Creating practice with control movement on his pouring and emptying of the jars. Slowing down his body to think and react to the speed of the macaroni coming out of the jar and into the other opening.

Fun With Rainbow Balloon Jar

The color of the balloons also adds a fun new vibe to the container.

Paint can also be poured into the jar and spun to create an inside color to even create a flower vase. Same with using a balloon.

We are soaking in the spring season that is upon us and we are reading as much as we can with the sunny day weather.
