Valentine’s Day Balloon Heart Card

This cute Valentine’s Day card is fun and easy to make. This is sure to be a hit with your friends and family as it was for us. We used this image to make a postcard that we printed out and sent to our friends and family this year.

Materials Needed To Make Balloon Heart Card

The materials for making the balloon heart card are simple and inexpensive.

  • White construction paper
  • A photo of your child pretending to hold balloons
  • Red paint (We also added Pink paint to change up the colors in the card)
  • A Ruler – To Draw straight lines
  • A black pen or ultra-fine sharpie marker
  • Empty toilet paper roll
  • Optional – Scotch tape to hold the shape of the toilet paper roll and a hairdryer to dry the paint faster, or you could just let it air dry.

How To Make The Valentines Balloon Heart Card

  1. The first thing you will need to do is have your child take a photo pretending to hold balloons.
  2. Instead of having a photo developed and then cutting it out and gluing it to the paper, we simply printed out the photo on our color copier onto thick cardstock.
  3. You will then need to place a crease into one side of the toilet paper roll in order to form the heart shape. We used a couple of pieces of scotch tape to help hold the heart shape in place. This seemed to do the trick pretty well.
  4. Use one end of the heart shape to dip into red or pink paint and stamp the paper above your child’s photo. You will need to stamp enough hearts for it to look as though your child is holding a bundle of balloons. We then filled some of the balloons in with paint to change up the design a bit.
  5. The next thing to do is to allow the paint to dry on the paper or to use a hairdryer to dry the paint before moving on.
  6. Once the paint is dry then you will want to draw either some small triangles at the bottom of each balloon or draw another shape that looks like where the balloons are tied.
  7. Then you will use the ruler and sharpie to draw strings from the bottom of the balloons down to your child’s’ raised hand.

Some Other Ideas To Use This Balloon Heart Design

We found this craft to be fun and wondered how we could further use the balloon heart image with our son. We played around a little bit and expanded on the paint stamping idea.

love and heart sponge stamps

We had this Love sponge stamp and Heart sponge stamp from the Dollar store, so we coated them with paint and stamped another sheet of cardstock to make another design.

Once the paint had dried we used our scanner to scan in the images of the balloon heart, love, and heart shape designs into the computer.

We uploaded the images to Canva in order to create our fun Valentine’s Day card that we sent out to our friends and family this year.

We wish all of you a Happy Valentine’s Day!
