Chilly weather, hot cocoa, and nice warm socks snuggled at home with indoor games keep our small family gathered and entertained. We enjoy fun and simple games and we also play games that bring about spatial awareness and strategies. Having a variety of games breaks up the day and adds quick games in between transitional times throughout the day. Growing up, traditionally playing the game, tic tac toe, we used letters “x” and “o.” This time around, we thought outside of the box and brought in winter wonderland animals that can also be added and used in conjunction with a fun winter-themed curriculum.

Additional ways to use the game pieces:

1. Create patterns using the game character pieces.
2. Play a memory game with the characters.
3. Practice sorting.
4. Place the character pieces in alphabetical order (example: igloo, penguin, polar bear, snowflake, and walrus).
5. Count the total number of characters.
6. Create drawing opportunities for what a child interprets for each character.
7. Practice spelling each character.
8. Learning and pronouncing the first letter of each character.
9. Print out additional characters and place them on popsicle sticks to create mini puppets and play.
