How To Make Rainbow Dyed Pasta

Dried Pasta has so many fun uses and even the varying shapes create more dynamic for the purposes and theme of your sensory bin you’re going for.

In this case, we used elbow-shaped macaroni as it resembled the shape of the rainbow. Hence, we used acrylic paint to represent the rainbow colors to color the macaroni. Measured the pasta in measuring cups to have similar amounts of pasta for each color.

The activity itself was relaxing and satisfying massaging the paint and a generous squirt of antibacterial into each bag dying the macaroni.

Once the macaroni bags were all completed and dyed, we laid the wet macaroni onto a foiled pan to let dry.

A quick and simple recipe to create the colors of choice.

Once dried, we aligned according to the colors of macaroni to the designated colored jars.

The macaroni yielded plentiful amounts to play with.

Some Ideas For How To Play With The Rainbow Dyed Pasta

Match the colored macaroni to the colored jars, practicing hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Add in some other fine motor tools from Learning Resource to add in some more variety.

Macaroni can also be used to make patterns, counting, and form varying shapes using pasta. The possibilities are endless.

Once the macaroni excitement combinations of uses were performed and used, we poured in all the colors in a dish and let our little one explore the mixed macaroni to his own exploration as we did here.

The dyed pasta creates such an open play in the day-to-day activities that give our children the opportunity to fill and pour the items into one dish from another.
