We hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration. Today’s project is a DIY sensory bead bag activity that we did with our son on New Year’s Eve.

Sensory bags are a great way for kids to practice their fine motor skills. This project makes use of pipe beads placed in a large Ziploc bag filled with hair gel that we picked up from the dollar store.

We didn’t use any water in this bag, but you could use a combination of gel and water in order to make the solution a little bit more runny for moving the objects in the bag. Really, it comes down to your own preference if you want water or not.

One potential issue if the mixture is too runny is that the bag might leak. In order to avoid this, some people will tape all four corners of the bag completely to seal it.

Making Your Sensory Bag

In order to make the sensory activity, you will first print off the free printable and tape it to one side of the Ziploc bag.

You will then fill the bag with a hair gel or other clear solution that is thicker than water. You can add some water if the gel is too thick. You could also choose to add some food coloring to the mix if you would like it colored.

Once you have added the gel then you can add the beads or other items you want to the bag. Close the bag and tape all four sides full length of the bag. This is an important step as the Ziploc bag might leak, so adding additional re-enforcement is helpful for preventing any leaks.

The object of the activity is for your kids to move the beads from around the bag and orient them inside the 2021 numbers.

Our son enjoyed this project and we will be incorporating more of these style projects
